Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been haunting Feature Films the way I used to.

I know from my own previous checking that The Secret Code is PD, all episodes were registered and renewed.

I'm also virtually certain that The Masked Marvel is still in copyright, the only reason I qualify that is that I didn't check it first-hand.

As for the rest, I don't know, but would guess most are at least partly covered, except the ones that got released through PD distributors like Alpha. Release dates would help enormously in beginning the search for registrations and renewals.

You can check registrations yourself. Find the catalogs for the year of the film in question on the archive, and go through the PDF for the title and any alternate titles.

You can begin looking here:
http://archive.org/details/copyrightrecords

And while I've not looked through this particular one, it looks spot-on for 1940-49:

Basically, you want to search for "Catalog of Copyright Entries", the year, and the catalog for Films, plus any supplemental catalogs for Film that year (sometimes there are one or two supplements).

Thanks DJason, and cool I'm glad that the secret code is pd, that's one more at least.

D'OH!

My stupid fingers did not type what I was thinking.

It is NOT public domain, because (as I did manage to type out) all episodes were registered and renewed.

Sorry about that. It's a very fun serial, and a pity that it can't be put on the Archive.
